Winter series at Rushmore

Next Week sees Jon heading up to the Midlands to the PGA headquarters for his second year residential, good luck with that and we look forward to you coming back and sharing your new found knowledge.

I will be playing in the next instalment of the PGA Dorset/Wilts Winter series at Rushmore GC, a win would be nice but a top 5 will keep me in contention for making the top 3 in the order of merit and making the Dorset team.

Valentine's night

Valentine’s night was another successful sold out evening put on by clubhouse 1896, well done to the team amidst the ongoing clubhouse refurbishment.

Pairs Betterball Stroke play

We had a Pairs Betterball Stroke play on Saturday 17th which saw 17 pairs compete once the fog had cleared, Congratulations to Julian Flower & Ian Spalding with their fine Net 62, edging out Steve Wixon & Alan Wilkin by 1 shot.

59 Watch!

Sunday the 18th was an Individual Stroke play and Netra Rai posted an impressive Net 60 winning division 2 by 10 shots and seeing his handicap plummet from 24 down to 20.

Div 1 was a little closer, seeing Ryan Elliott edge out Sparky Rik Cummins by just the 1 shot with a Net 66.

This month’s 200 club has been drawn, well done to the lucky few.

Plenty to look forward to 

Last few days to enter CJ’s Good Friday Final, Masters Event is now full and so is the Captains away day to Stoneham, looks like everyone is getting keen for the new season!

Please check the notice boards for all future events as most are on a 1st come 1st serve basis, please could I remind everyone to do their best to enter some of the Friendly club matches, these are fun days out played at some lovely courses as well as the Home fixtures. Support for these matches was poor last year and it would be a shame to see them go.

Resurgent Bubba?

It’s hard to know whether the quirky American is best known for his pink driver or for winning two Green Jackets, but seeing Bubba Watson struggle over the past 12 months – so much so that he was on the verge of retiring at the age of 39 – was a sad sight.

He plummeted from being a staple name inside the world’s top 10 to being well outside the top 100, so you would have been forgiven for not expecting much from him at last week’s Genesis Open. However, the 39-year-old returned to the top of the leaderboard and secured a two-shot victory in fantastic fashion.

So, what happened in those 12 months in between? Well, Bubba switched golf ball to a brightly coloured ball from a different manufacturer. Only recently has he reversed his decision and went back to the old faithful that helped him win two majors, and almost immediately he wins his 10th PGA Tour title. Coincidence?
