| [*END*] Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter. In this week’s mail, we compare today's drivers to the big sticks of yesteryear, look at how layering has become so important out on the course and cast our eye over one of the changes to the Rules of Golf which come into effect in 2019. Enjoy the read. |
A good week on the course Last week was personally a good week for me on the course, I haven’t been playing competitively much in recent weeks but when I have I’ve even surprised myself. Last Thursday we had the 1st Winter Dorset & Wilts Professional Medal at Rushmoor GC, I managed a little win with a score of -1 70 and then backed that up with a pleasing home Pro Am performance which was good enough for 2nd position shooting a 65, congratulations to Mike Watson who managed a fine 63. If it wasn’t for a slightly frustrating closing 6 holes for Jon, he may have finished in the money, but I think he can take some positives from being level par for the 1st 12holes. |
West Region Pro Am Friday for the West Region Pro Am was a perfect day once the mist cleared, home players faired well. The winning team had Dave Keig, Jon Elcock and their guest David, and runners up in the team event saw Chairman Steve Pardey, GM Callum Tulloch & Dave Purver…. Well done Guys |

Weekend Round Up Saturday was a weather write off, so no results there, but on a beautiful sunny but crisp Sunday we had a Fun Captains Charity Bogey comp. 44 played & Div 1 was won by Adie Royal +4 and Div 2 was headed by Giles Paver +1. Well done chaps. |

Do you need new spikes? Winter brings with it rain, which makes the ground beneath your feet softer and more slippery. To avoid destructive shots like these, come in-store and take advantage of our Shoe MOT promotion, where you can get new spikes fitted for half price! |

Hatton crumbles It was back to the daily grind for Europe’s Ryder Cup heroes, with Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood both in action at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Hatton led in the final round by four strokes heading into the back nine, but a remarkable collapse involving four bogies saw him card a level par 72, allowing Denmark’s Lucas Bjerregarrd to steal victory at St Andrews. Fleetwood shared second with Hatton as a final day 69 left him on 14 under, one stroke behind Bjerregarrd. This week the tour heads to Walton Heath with Justin Rose playing host at the British Masters. |
Rule changes As 2019 comes ever closer, so too do the new Rules of Golf which are to be implemented on 1st January 2019. The changes being made are intended to modernise the game, one of which is the dropping procedure. Drops will no longer have to be made from shoulder height – instead, golfers will be able to drop from knee height when taking relief to simplify the dropping process and speed up play.

Sometimes it's nice to reminisce about the good times. When it comes to golf, the days of persimmon woods, small clubheads and hitting balls which were hard as a rock are long gone - but it can help to take a trip down memory lane to remind us of just how much technology has developed, particularly in the case of drivers. |

Take Srixon for example; you might have been lucky enough to own its 'revolutionary' W-506 driver way back in 2006. A 450cc clubhead, no adjustability and a titanium construction meant the W-506 was possibly one of the most intimidating clubs on the market - which made it even sweeter when you crushed one right down the middle. Fast-forward to the present day and Srixon has released its most technologically advanced driver to date in the form of Z 785. Its lightweight carbon crown is far more forgiving than the W-506's titanium equivalent, and the Quick Tune system on the Z 785 means you can adjust the club to your individual swing, giving you straighter, longer drives off the tee. So, whilst it's nice to think about your first ever driver, it's probably time to get up to speed with the latest models such as the Z 785. Who knows? Maybe in another 10 years time, you'll be looking back on the Z 785 with as much fondness as the W-506! |
