Smiling Cinderella wins at Woburn… It was a fairytale ending for ladies Japanese golfer, Hinako Shibuno, who made her first competitive start outside Japan a special one by winning the AIG Women’s British Open at Woburn this weekend. Nicknamed ‘Smiling Cinderella’ for her happy approach out on the course, she made light work of the back nine of the Marquess course all week carding an 18-under par total. American Lizette Salas missed a putt on the last to potentially force a play-off, but did secure second place on her own and all but assure her spot on the American Solheim Cup Team this September at Gleneagles. Home hopes faded on the final day with Charley Hull, Georgia Hall and Bronte Law all shooting over-par rounds, however they will look to bounce back at the Ladies Scottish Open this week. |
